Role of the Student in E-learning

http://www.bjork.norden.ee/images/E-learning2.jpg

Like in a classroom setting, both learners and instructors have to play certain roles in an e-learning environment. These roles are vital, for they specify and clarify the responsibilities that are essential to guarantee efficient and rewarding learning experiences for both parties.

In e-learning, students are encouraged to become independent learners. This only means that the learning experience does not solely depend on the instructor’s efforts. Certain amounts of preparation must be done, and certain amounts of effort must be exerted by the student in order to productively contribute to online learning.

Primary to this is self-awareness. Students must become aware of themselves, their personal expectations, as well as the expectations of the instructor. Thorough assessment of their personal skills, work ethic, behavior, and attitude is important in order for them to rouse constructive changes or modifications within themselves. It is important that they understand their motivations/value for learning.

Orientation is second. Students enter the Elearning Software Solutions environment at the different levels of preparedness. Before engaging in formal learning, the student must orient himself (preferably with the aid of the instructor) with the course content, computer, internet, virtual classroom, software, classmates and the instructor himself.

The third role is discipline. As mentioned previously, e-learning requires a student to be an independent learner. An e-learning environment has minimal structure as compared to that of a traditional classroom setting. This means that the student must follow the course schedule and complete assignments in order to maximize learning.

Fourth is self-direction. In relation to independent learning, the student must be able to motivate himself and take the initiative in the expansion of his learning. For example, if he has trouble with certain content, he cannot expect the instructor to offer help; but instead, he should ask the instructor a question directly.

And fifth, the student must be internally and externally motivated. This means that he should comply with class requirements, or strive to learn because of a particular interest. In e-learning, students may choose the content the best interests him.

First the room, then the house

Ok, after much fussing and cussing, I think I have narrowed down my choice of house paint color into two major groups, although I don't know why I really bother, considering that right now I am only still planning to paint my bedroom and not the entire house yet, so I think I just really have to focus on just deciding what bedroom paint colors to buy, or finagle from my uncle's shop.

I want my room to look relaxing but not depressing, lively but not loud, and creative without being artsy-fartsy. How to do that? I have no idea. But hey, I do have to start somewhere, right? Might as well start here, and like my initial plan, if it becomes a major fail here, at least only I get to see it, and promptly cover the ugly choice with a new one. I really should have been paying more attention to our creepy professor back in art class, I would have probably picked up a useful thing or two if I did, and I wouldn't have to worry about making my house look silly once I get to picking paint color ideas for it.

I think I'll stick to my preferred hues, shades of green, just to be on the safe side. I've always liked green and so far, whenever I do get to wear green or pick something out in that color, it's always a hit with people, so maybe it stands to reason that it would be a safe wall paint color for me to pick out as a dominant color for the entire house, although to be on the safe side, I'm going to try it out on my room first and see how it fares. Who knows, right? It could be just the color this house needs.

Spring-borne stir craziness

Second month of the year is now upon us, and just hot on its heels, is spring. I wonder what I'll do in the thaw. I'm thinking of redecorating, actually, I've been cooped up so long indoors that staring at the same house paint colors is almost enough to drive me completely insane. As it is, I'm already stir-crazy, and not having anyone to go with me when i want to go out is not helping me any. I need to seriously do something before I lose it. I may need to seriously consider where I want to start though.

I think I'll start with my bedroom. That was, at least, if i screw up big time, at least the only one gagging at my bedroom paint color fail is me. Not to sound pessimistic about the whole idea, I am not known for my exemplary ability to paint a pretty room, which is why I mostly have my relatives handle the painting projects. What the heck, I've gotta learn how to paint an entire house sometime, I'm far from being completely helpless anyway. I've read of people with slight disabilities pulling their own weight around the house, so I really have no excuse.

So now I go to ponder and contemplate... and maybe pick up the latest copy of home designs mags to help me cook up some inspirations.

First things first though, I need to get around getting brilliant paint color ideas, and by brilliant, I don't mean blindingly bright. The color combinations should be something that could be tolerably seen in a room, and not leave me wanting to close my eyes every time I'm in my room. Although that could work both ways, especially when I'm hit with a bout of insomnia. But then, I also do some work in my room, and not wanting to open my eyes because of some really bad wall paint colors may not be particularly beneficial to me.

Why suddenly?

Quirky name for a blog, I know, but that's how I always see myself: fleeing from the scene, fleeing from conflict, fleeing from whatever it is that's bugging me. It's not that I'm chicken or anything, just ask the numerous guys I've laid out with a sudden uppercut after making an unintelligent remark about me. It's just that I'm really not the confrontational type. Never was, and never will be, I guess, not that I think it's a bad thing on my part.

Best example: I was supposed to be at my uncle's place very well til February this year, but just two days after New Year's day and I was already on the road in my truck heading on home after a rather petty argument with my older cousin there. I say petty because I mean, really, who argues about paint? Like we don't have better things to argue about back there, but paint?

All I said was that the ancestral home had seen better days, and so has the house paint colors, and she flew into this tirade about how much of a city girl I've become, how I had lost my love for things that are classical and what-have-you. I told her I was just suggesting that maybe we should start choosing paint colors for the house, since the paint was already PEELING and falling on our heads whenever the house shakes a little, but she says she doesn't see it that way. She says I'm attacking their way of life, which should also be my way of life, she insists, since it was how they were brought up. I gave her a piece of my mind and told her I did go to the city and attended college so that I could make something of myself, rather than just stay in the country and be a baby-maker for some farmer.

So here I am, already home in my small pad, but already admiring the splendid job I did with the wall paint colors on the house, and thankful to be away from all the bickering and arguments over something I really think is petty and silly at best.
